Family picture at the end of the launch of MOAYE in Adzope

The MOAYE-Cocoa program, previously named MOAYE project have been launched simultaneously at Adzope, Divo, San-Pedro, Méagui & Man on March 20th, 21st and 22nd with the presence of agricultural authorities and Bayer partners.

First fully dedicated to the cocoa culture, the brand-new program will consider three cultures namely Cocoa, coton & Maiz which are cultures Bayer want to focus on as mentioned during the Go-to-Market 2023 for the good of the business and the SHF.

« MOAYE » means happiness in Baoule language (a local ethnic group). Since 2014, the program intends to bring a fresh gust of wind to the cocoa value chain sustainability. Through this program, BAYER aims to contribute to improving farmers living conditions and food security. It has been created because of the consumer and SHF needs:

  • Continuous forecast of world cocoa demand and the need for a cleaner cocoa
  • Increased productivity, necessary for food security
  • Lack of knowledge regarding the phytosanitary good practices and empty bottle management
  • Lack of culture diversifications by the producers

In response to these concerns, which affect producers, consumers, and the environment, BAYER has integrated Bayer Reward into the MOAYE program, a digital tool that tracks products from the moment they leave the warehouse to the plantation where they are applied. This innovation enables better management of empty packaging.

The MOAYE program fills six Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

  1. No poverty: it diversifies the revenue source of producers by touching several crops and allowing the production of crops quality.
  2. Zero hunger: the MOAYE program aims to increase by 40% the production over the next five years.
  3. Good health and well-being by reducing risks related to the usage of phytosanitary products
  4. Gender equity: MOAYE program plan to increase the revenue by women empowerment
  5. Climate action by collecting empty containers
  6. Life on land by reducing the environment impact of our products to protect cultures and wildlives.

Everything touching Cocoa is touching families as well. Today, many questions are being discussed like aging of orchard, sustainability, diversification, etc…
N'Guessan Michel
Regional Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Sustainable Development

This was to emphasize the importance of the support offered by BAYER WCA through programs that enable farmers to benefit from training, certified products and awards obtained while conserving the environment.

The Cargill representative, Mr Yves Onghen, Farmer Livehood Cargill West Africa Coordinator, urged the cooperatives to raise producers' awareness of the need for quality products, so as not to bequeath arid land to future generations. These good practices preserve people and soil.

These words were also underlined by Amina Dussud, Country Commercial Lead, who particularly emphasized Bayer's massive investment in research and development, which enables it to offer sustainable and innovative solutions that help crops to grow.

Glyphosate is essential for effective weed control, food supply and environmental sustainability.

In Sivanto Energy 085 and Cabrio Duo, for example, we find not one but two molecules. This is the result of extensive research, which has led to the conclusion that pathogens adapt and are therefore more resistant when only one molecule is present in the product. The use of two molecules therefore enables them to be eliminated more rapidly by different routes. The use of original products also enables growers to benefit from better-maintained plants and to be part of programs such as "track and trace", which enables empty packaging to be brought back, often used for water consumption containers, for example.

A better 2023 offer

In addition to a 30% price reduction granted to cooperatives exceptionally this year, Bayer will be offering bonus prizes based on orders from its cooperatives. These include health check-ups for applicators, Personal Protective Equipment, sprayers and, as this year's super prize, three VIP tickets to attend CAN2023 (including accommodation and transport), as reported by Rita Zebihi. Sales Projects and Sustainability Manager, this offer is available subject to a number of conditions, including an order of over 15 million F CFA.

The day's launch could not have ended any better than with words from the key players, the cooperatives. Three cooperatives responded to the call for 2022 winners: CADESA, UPRAD and SOCOPAGOS. Partners of BAYER WCA since 2020, two of these cooperatives showed off the benefits they have received over the past three years.

1. Compliance assistance for market access

2.  BAYER WCA training for cooperatives to facilitate certification

3.  Innovations from which they constantly benefit. For example, many cooperatives no longer have to bear the cost of the I.P.E. supplied by BAYER WCA.
