The FoodWings venture has achieved a key milestone by enrolling 48 smallholder farmers for the all-in-one solution of Bayer. The package consists of hybrid seeds (Dekalb), pre- and post-emergence herbicides, and an insecticide to boost smallholder yields for African growers.

Bayer West-Central Africa achieved strong results through the Foodwings initiave by collaborating with five franchisee partners who recruited the smallholders, procured additional fertilizer, provided financing, and supported crop management. The average farm gate price per acre is over 60€, usually an unthinkable spend in the smallholder space!

The crops are now growing in the field and have already been treated with the crop protection products (selective fields sprayed by drone technology). The outlook for great harvests looks promising in Q4 to deliver strong ROI for the franchisees and smallholder farmers.
