Bayer WCA organized a conference this Wednesday, October 04, 2023 at the Tilapia 2 hall at the Parc des Expositions in Abidjan on the theme "innovation to improve the lives of producers faced with the challenge of food security".

Dominique Guinet, General Administrator of the West and Central African Region, revealed that :

"Agriculture faces many challenges, including food security, climate change, preservation of natural resources and economic competitiveness. To meet these challenges, it is necessary to develop innovations that improve the productivity, sustainability and resilience of agricultural systems".

According to him, "the first innovation concerns varietal selection, which aims to create seeds adapted to farmers' needs and environmental conditions; the second innovation concerns crop protection, which consists in controlling the pests, diseases and weeds that affect yields and the quality of agricultural produce. The third innovation is agro-ecology, which proposes the design of agricultural systems based on the enhancement of ecological processes".

He emphasized that Bayer will continue to develop a long-term scientific approach. This will involve developing a forward-looking approach with umbrella organizations, with the ultimate aim of contributing quality products.

For her part, Zebihi Rita, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Sustainability at Bayer, announced that the 2024-2028 objectives targeted by the company through its MOAYE program are as follows: "141,000 growers, 282,100ha, 8T/ha yields, 200 demonstration plots to be carried out and 600,000 fcfa/ha income for growers".

In addition, through its Better Life Farming centers called "Moaye Hêrê", which aim to get closer to producers through an ecosystem approach, Bayer intends to "increase the income of corn and cocoa producers, contribute to food security and popularize agro-entrepreneurship. Bayer already has nine (9) centers in the major corn-growing areas of Kabadougou, Bagoué, Poro and Tchologo, to name but a few.

In addition, Karim Traoré, Head of Seed Regulation and Coordination Africa, presented Bayer's DEKALB corn offer in West and Central Africa, which provides corn growers with a turnkey solution to guarantee controlled production with high yield potential, backed up by advice.
