Minister ALY NGOUILLE NDIAYE had pledged to provide producers with quality seeds, subsidize inputs and boost production through special measures for a special program. The countdown began a few weeks ago, and with this in mind, corn seed from Bayer West-Central Africa was received in Tambacounda.

Authorities hand over hybrid seeds in Tabacounda

On behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, the Governor of Tambacounda, Omar Mamadou BALDÉ, in the presence of producers, stakeholders and regional services, took delivery of hybrid maize seed intended for the special maize program, which aims to improve productivity and production, create decent, sustainable jobs and facilitate access to agricultural services.

For the Tambacounda region, more than 90 tonnes are planned for the corn interprofession and some private individuals in the 3 departments, i.e. 4,500 hectares to be planted for an expected production projection of 2,250 tonnes with a minimum yield of 5 tonnes/ha. The beneficiaries praised the immense effort made by the state to make food sovereignty a key objective.

To achieve food security, Senegal has set up a 30,000 ha program nationwide to boost production by 560,000 tonnes. In 3 years' time, the aim is to reach 1.5 million tonnes. Corn growers, led by President Bana Dièye, believe that hybrid seeds will enable this target to be reached quickly.
