The Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) is heavily influenced by the law of the European Union. In certain cases, companies outside of the European Union or the European Economic Area (EEA) must also comply with the GDPR.

Use of Cookies
What are cookies?

This Website uses “cookies”. Cookies are small text files that are stored via your browser in your device’s memory. They store certain information (e.g. your preferred language or site settings) that your browser may (depending on the lifespan of the cookie) retransmit to us on your next visit to our Website.

What cookies do we use?

We differentiate between two categories of cookies: (1) functional cookies, without which the functionality of our Website would be reduced, and (2) optional cookies used for website analysis and marketing purposes. The following table provides a detailed description of the optional cookies we use on our Website::

Optional cookies

You can view and adjust the settings for the optional cookies used in the Global Privacy Statement.

Subject to your consent

We only use optional cookies if we have obtained your prior consent (Art. 6(1)(a) General Data Protection Regulation). Upon your first access to our Website, a banner will appear, asking you to give us your consent to the use of optional cookies. If your consent is given, we will place a cookie on your computer and the banner will not appear again as long as the cookie is active. After expiration of the cookie’s lifespan, or if you actively delete the cookie, the banner will reappear upon your next visit to our Website and again ask for your consent.

How to prevent the use of cookies

Of course, you may use our Website without cookies. In your browser, you can at any time configure or completely deactivate the use of cookies. This may, however, lead to functions being restricted or have adverse effects on the user-friendliness of our Website. You can object to the use of optional cookies at any time by using the respective objection option indicated in the above table.

Website analysis with Google

On our Website, we use a web analysis service of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”).

Google will analyze your use of our Website on our behalf. For this purpose, we use the cookies described in detail in the above cookie table. The information collected by Google in connection with your use of our Website (e.g. the referring URL, which of our webpages you visit, your browser type, your language settings, what operating system you use or your screen resolution) will be transmitted to a Google server in the US, where it will be stored and analyzed and the result will be provided to us in anonymized form. Your usage data will not be connected to your full IP address during this process. On our Website, we have activated Google’s IP anonymizing function, which will delete the last 8 bits (type IPv4) or the last 80 bits (type IPv6) of your IP address after each data transfer to Google.

You may revoke your consent to the use of web analysis at any time, either by downloading and installing the provided Google browser plugin or by administrating your consents in the above table, in which case an opt-out cookie will be placed. Both options will prevent web analysis only as long as you use the browser on which you installed the plugin and do not delete the opt-out cookie.

Behavioral advertising with Google

This Website uses a targeted advertising service of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”).

Google analyzes your use of this Website. For this purpose, Google uses, among other things, the cookies outlined in detail in the above cookie table. The information collected by Google in connection with your use of our Website (e.g. the referring URL, which of our webpages you visit, your browser type, your language settings, what operating system you use or your screen resolution) will be transmitted to a Google server in the US, where it will be stored and analyzed. We and our partner Google use this information to tailor advertisements to you and your interests, to limit how often you are shown the same advertisement, to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns, or to understand how people behave after viewing an advertisement. Based on the information recorded, you may be shown personalized advertisements tailored to your interests when visiting another website in the Google Display Network that take into account information you have previously accessed on our Website.

You can revoke your consent to the transfer of information to Google for the purpose of behavioral advertising at any time by managing your consent settings in the above table, in which case an opt-out cookie will be placed, or by downloading and installing the browser plugin offered by Google. Both options will prevent the use of targeted advertising services only as long as you use the browser on which you installed the plugin and do not delete the opt-out cookie.

Google is responsible for processing the personal data relating to you that Google collects directly from our Website for the purpose of behavioral advertising. Since we have no control over the personal data collected and processed by third parties, we are not in a position to provide binding information regarding the scope, purpose or duration of such processing of your personal data. We therefore kindly request that you read the information provided by Google regarding data privacy to find out more about how and for how long Google processes your personal data. At the time this Privacy Statement was prepared, the information provided by Google was available in Google’s data protection policies for advertising.

The respective provider of the services or content may also process your personal data for own additional purposes. To the best of our knowledge, we have configured the services and content of providers known to process personal data for their own purposes in such a way that any communication for purposes other than to present their services or content on our Website is either blocked or only takes place once you have actively opted to use the service in question. However, since we have no control over the personal data collected and processed by third parties, we are not in a position to provide binding information regarding the scope and purpose of the processing of your personal data.

For further information regarding the scope and purpose of such processing of your personal data, please consult the privacy statements of the relevant providers of the services and/or content we have included, who are responsible for the protection of your data:

Use of the recommendation function

If you wish to recommend us to others, you can do so by using the recommendation function on our Website. You may, in your and our legitimate interest, send a message to any person if you assume that the recipient wishes to receive such information. Once the recommendation has been sent, we will delete the associated personal data (name and email address).

Information about side-effects or quality complaints

This Website is not intended or designed for communications regarding undesirable side-effects, lack of therapeutic effect, medication errors, gray market goods/counterfeits, incorrect or off-label use, quality complaints and/or other issues regarding the safety or quality of Bayer products. If you wish to report side-effects or make a quality complaint, please contact your health care professional (e.g. physician or pharmacist) or your local health authority, or use our Website created for reporting undesirable side-effects.

If you nonetheless report undesirable side-effects or other issues regarding the safety or quality of drugs or medical products to us, we are legally obliged to process your report. For this purpose, we may also need to contact you to clarify certain questions. We may also be required to subsequently forward your reports to the responsible public health authorities, whereby your information is forwarded exclusively in pseudonymized form so that no information is transmitted from which you can be directly identified. We may also have to forward these pseudonymized notifications to our group companies and cooperation partners, provided these are obliged to notify the relevant health authorities responsible for them.

Transfer of data for commissioned processing

We sometimes use specialized service providers to process your data. We carefully select and regularly monitor all our service providers. They process personal data only at our request and in strict accordance with our instructions on the basis of corresponding agreements on order processing.

State disclosure in the case of cross-border disclosure of personal data

Your personal data will mainly be processed in the country of the data controller and in other European countries where the Bayer Group has an affiliate. In exceptional cases, your personal data may also be processed in countries outside the European Union, in particular in the USA.

Processing of personal data outside the EU / EEA

Your personal data will in part also be processed in countries outside the European Union (“EU”) or the European Economic Area (“EEA”) that might generally have a lower level of data protection than European countries. In such cases, we will ensure that your personal data is sufficiently protected, e.g. by concluding contractual agreements with our contracting partners (copy available on request), or we will ask for your explicit consent to such processing.

The following rights are in general available to you under the applicable data privacy laws:

  • Right of information about your personal data stored by us;
  • Right to request the correction, deletion or restricted processing of your personal data;
  • Right to object to processing which serves our own legitimate interest, public interest, or profiling purposes, unless we are able to prove that compelling, warranted reasons outweighing your interests, rights and freedom exist, or that such processing is done for purposes of the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims;
  • Right to data portability;
  • Right to file a complaint with a data protection authority;
  • You may at any time with future effect revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data. For further information please refer to the sections above describing the processing of data based on your consent.
