Bayer in Côte d’Ivoire
The République de Côte d’Ivoire is a country in West Africa that shares borders with Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Liberia and Guinea. It gets its name from the intensive ivory trade that took place on that particular stretch of the coast from the 15th to 17th centuries.
The Country has two capital cities : Yamoussoukro and Abidjan. The official capital, since 1983, is Yamoussoukro. However, Abidjan is the administrative capital, the officially designated economic capital, the chief port and largest city of Côte d’Ivoire.
Bayer officially set up operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Ghana in 2002. This installation was possible thanks to the acquisition of Aventis by Bayer's CropScience Division. Aventis, bought by BAYER, had acquired Roussel in 1999, which had been established in Côte d'Ivoire since 1961.
The Cote d'Ivoire office has been closed in 2007, few years after the socio-political crisis in the country. Bayer Morocco dediced then to have a representation office in Cote d'Ivoire. The legal entity for the Cote d'Ivoire office has been established in 2014.
