How Short Stature Corn Can Contribute to the Future of Food Sustainably
With a focus on sustainable farming, this session marked the official launch for Future of Farming Dialogue—a virtual event series inviting everyone, everywhere, to join the conversation on health and hunger. Taking place in homes across the globe, panelists shared the importance of feeding the world, without starving the planet.

Manuel Bravo is President and CEO of Bayer in Mexico, as well as Leader for the Agriculture Division (Crop Science) business for the North Latin America region. For more than 15 years, he served different roles within Monsanto in several areas and regions – his last role as the Leader of Commercial Operations for North Latin America, responsible for the business in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and the countries of Central America and the Caribbean. Bravo holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana and a postgraduate degree in Management from Northwestern University (Kellogg) in Chicago.
Over his more than four-decade career in genetics and seed business, Dr. Manuel Oyervides Garcia led, directed and managed several successful breeding programs in Latin America for the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Mexico, Asgrow Seed Company, and, most recently, the Monsanto company. Dr. Oyervides Garcia has spearheaded national research efforts and directed innovative breeding strategies – playing an integral role in the development of industry-leading corn hybrids. Dr. Oyervides Garcia obtained a bachelor’s degree in agronomy at the Autonomous Agrarian University of Buenavista, Coahuila, Mexico, a master’s degree in genetics from the Graduate College of Chapingo Mexico and a Doctor of Philosophy in plant breeding and cytogenetics from Iowa State University. At present, Dr. Oyervides Garcia is a consultant for Bayer.
Bernardo De La Vega is a third-generation farmer whose main focus is potato, corn, wheat and sorghum crops in the north of Sinaloa and North of Sonora, Mexico. He has a degree in business administration from the Technological University in Monterrey.
