Open Innovation and Collaboration

Innovation

At Bayer, we embrace open innovation and strategic alliances to drive transformative advancements in health and nutrition. To achieve our objectives, we consistently join forces with a variety of partners, including those in our strategic impact investment unit Leaps.

By establishing scientific partnerships, engaging in dialogue with the scientific community, and making impactful investments in disruptive innovations, we are committed to fostering collaborative innovation that addresses humanity's most pressing challenges in healthcare and agriculture.

We believe in the power of open innovation as a means of driving progress. For this reason, we invite you to innovate with us!

Leaps by Bayer: Breaking Through Impossible

Leaps is our company's strategic impact investment unit. In health, we pursue breakthroughs that could set new standards in medical care, moving from treating symptoms to curing or preventing diseases. In agriculture, we drive innovations that could nourish a growing population while restoring the planet.

At Leaps, we partner with visionary founders in biotech, health-tech, and ag-tech, investing in existing companies or co-creating new ones. We provide substantial early-stage funding through minority equity investments and access to our technical capabilities and expertise.

Since 2015, Leaps has invested more than $1.9 billion in 60+ startups focused on agriculture or health. In 2023, six companies entered or completed phase 1 trials. One of Leaps’ joint ventures, BlueRock Therapeutics, was acquired in 2019 as a wholly owned, independently operated subsidiary, and has since become the cornerstone of our cell therapy pipeline.

Scientific Collaboration

In addition to our robust research and development activities, we proactively engage with external innovation ecosystems, fostering connections with diverse partners, including universities, start-ups, and other industrial companies. We make use of incubation facilities, funding, and mentoring programs, as well as partnerships at innovation hubs.

We are committed to sharing our scientific collaborations and fostering dialogue with universities, public research institutions, and individuals through the Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer.
