  • $165,000 in community grants available to charities & not-for-profits across Canada through the 2019 Canada’s Farmers Grow Communities Program

Winnipeg, MB – Jan. 16, 2019 – There’s always a good cause to support in rural communities across the country.  Today, we’re pleased to announce that through the Canada’s Farmers Grow Communities Program, we’re committing $165,000 to causes that matter to farmers and rural Canadians.

Canada’s Farmers Grow Communities is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer. The program, which was first offered in 2012, allows farmers to register to win $2,500 for their favourite community charity or not-for-profit organization. Charitable groups and community members who are not farmers can also offer suggestions online at www.canadasfarmers.ca, which farmers can then consider in their application. Since the program’s inception, more than $1.1 million in community grants has been provided to almost 450 rural-based charities and not-for-profit groups.

“It’s great to see the growth in this program and we’re encouraged more farmers and community members are learning about the grants and thinking creatively and passionately about how the funds could be used for the benefit of those around them,” said Trish Jordan, public & industry affairs director with Bayer’s Crop Science division. “It’s been inspiring to see all the work charities are doing to improve lives and strengthen their communities.”

A total of two, $2,500 grants will be awarded in each of 33 regions across the grain growing regions of northeastern BC (Peace River district), Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces.  Winners will be randomly drawn from all applications received between January 14 and September 30, 2019.  Farmers may make one entry each, but multiple farmers can complete an entry for the same charity or project, thereby increasing the chance of being drawn.

Charities or community groups can also participate in the program by offering suggestions for farmers to consider.  All suggestions are posted on the “charity map” located on the Canada’s Farmers Grow Communities website.

Complete contest rules, eligibility requirements and a quick and easy online application form are available at www.canadasfarmers.ca.  Winners will be selected by random draw prior to November 1, 2019 and notified via email by mid-November 2019.
