CALGARY, AB – SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 – Bayer Crop Science Canada supports future leaders in Canadian agriculture by awarding thirty-two (32) entrance scholarships, each valued at $3,000, to first-year students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture or food-related fields of study.
“We are very focused on enabling the next generation of leaders in Canadian agriculture,” said Ginger Rozmus, Communications Lead, Bayer Crop Science Canada. “Through the Bayer Opportunity Scholarship, we hope to inspire and encourage new agriculture enthusiasts to learn about the industry in a meaningful way. We wish the 2023 winners the best of luck with their post-secondary journeys.”
The awarded students demonstrated a passion for Canadian agriculture with a clear vision to contribute to the industry, as well as showed an impressive record of academic achievement and community involvement. An independent panel reviewed essay submissions from each of these exemplary students to make this year’s selection.
Erin Barnett from Grandview, Manitoba is thrilled to use the scholarship to pursue the Precision Agriculture Diploma Program at Olds College, and sees where the path of this education in agriculture will lead them.
“When I have completed this program at Olds College, I am going to return to the Parkland Region in Manitoba, and work within the agriculture industry,” says Erin. “Winning the Bayer Opportunity Scholarship will help me learn without added stress, and ensure I can return home to help farmers make confident decisions for their farms, themselves and their families.”
Scholarship winner, Hope Vander Haut from Waterdown, Ontario, expresses the financial relief the funding provides while entering their first year of post-secondary.
“The funding from the Bayer Crop Science Opportunity Scholarship will help relieve some of the stress of paying for tuition and the other expenses of university. It shows that hard work and effort pays off,” says Hope. “Going forward into my first year of university, I will continue to put in the effort in order for me to succeed, not only in school, but also in future agricultural endeavors.”
The 2023 Bayer Crop Science Opportunity Scholarship was administered by Universities Canada’s Scholarship Partners Canada—the leading Canadian service provider in the field of scholarship management.
Thousands of deserving students have received over $2 million in scholarship funding since the Bayer Fund Opportunity Scholarship program was first introduced in Canada in 1991.
