Calgary, AB (July 17, 2024) – Today Bayer launches its highest-yielding, next-generation canola hybrid: DEKALB® DK401TL. The jump in performance of the newest DEKALB 400 Series canola hybrid is thanks to strategic increases in investment, which provided both larger testing networks and genomic tools for better predictions. As a result, Bayer is seeing an accelerated development of better hybrids in the DEKALB lineup and delivering stronger yields than ever before.
“We’re thrilled to introduce DK401TL,” says Nikki Vercaigne, DEKALB West Marketing Campaign Lead at Bayer. “Our breeding and testing strategies have enabled us to focus like never before on what matters most to growers—starting with yield potential. With the addition of Straight Cut Plus genetics, a strong clubroot and disease package, an excellent weed control system and fantastic harvestability, this seed checks all the boxes.”
In addition to high-yielding genetics, DEKALB has bred sought-after standard features into the entire lineup, including Straight Cut Plus traits for enhanced pod shatter protection and clubroot resistance. The DEKALB canola line-up continues to deliver earlier maturity hybrids, allowing farmers to get into the field sooner and out quicker, with a smoother harvest.
The genetics in DK401TL also delivers a 5 per cent increase over DK400TL and offers the advantages of the TruFlex® LibertyLink® system, giving growers the flexibility to customize their weed control strategies. By being able to use either – or both – Roundup Ready® and LibertyLink® technologies, growers can control the broadest spectrum of weed species with a wider window of application and increased rate flexibility.
“I’ve helped develop and test DEKALB for over a decade and I’ve never seen a canola hybrid that comes this fully loaded with superior yield potential and weed control trait package,” says Tim Darragh, Market Development Manager – Canola Trait Systems at Bayer. “It’s a result of our precision breeding platform and a testament to what the brand’s new lineup will deliver to Canadian farmers.”
Plant breeding plays a critical role in delivering high-yielding hybrids to growers across Canada. Widespread access to data means that Bayer can collect more accurate information on every plot. This enables the team to test and monitor how seeds perform across hundreds of diverse scenarios. Powered by robust and geographically diverse data captured in FieldViewTM, the DEKALB 400 series is a great addition for growers across Western Canada.
Also new to the lineup for market year 2025 is the DEKALB 800 Series LibertyLink® canola hybrids, which include both clubroot resistance and Straight Cut Plus traits, while also delivering on high yield potential. As new precision breeding techniques increase the speed at which high-yielding innovations hit the market, Bayer is committed to delivering strong technologies that lead to cleaner fields and increased yields.
DK401TL, DK800LL and DK801LL canola hybrids will be available for the 2025 growing season. Growers are encouraged to talk to their local Bayer representative and retail to learn more, or visit www.DEKALB.ca/canola.
