Calgary, AB. – September 8, 2022 – Bayer Crop Science continued its commitment to fund the future leaders of Canadian agriculture by awarding thirty-two (32) entrance scholarships, each valued at $3,000, to first-year students pursuing college or university studies in agriculture or food-related fields of study.

Each deserving student has an impressive record of academic achievement, school and community involvement, and a clear vision of how they see themselves contributing to Canadian agriculture in the future.

Anna Dyck from Winkler, Manitoba was thrilled to secure her scholarship, noting she is the first generation in her family to complete high school and pursue post-secondary education. Anna is pursuing her degree in Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba.

“This scholarship has made it possible for me to pursue my passion in food and nutritional sciences,” said Anna. “Having to relocate to go to school is an added expense, so this scholarship is incredibly helpful in assisting with the cost of my tuition.”

Haley Lundy from Everett, Ontario said the funding will take a huge weight off her shoulders, financially and mentally. Haley is pursuing her Agri-business degree at the University of Guelph. “This is an amazing opportunity Bayer is providing to young scholars like me because it can be extremely stressful to adequately fund a post-secondary education,” said Haley. “Receiving this scholarship has proven all my hard work has paid off and it motivates me to continue my effort towards my education each and every day.”

Another scholarship winner, Foster Perkins from Souris, Manitoba, secured one of two scholarships set-aside for those students who identified as Indigenous.  Bayer has a commitment to support Indigenous students who want to explore education and a career in agriculture. Foster is pursuing an Agri-business Degree from the University of Winnipeg.

“Thank you for choosing me as a recipient for this scholarship. The money I have received will help me jump start my first year at the University of Winnipeg and will go towards paying for books and any other expenses I might incur while in school.”

Trish Jordan, senior business partner, government and industry affairs with Bayer Crop Science Canada, manages the scholarship program and continues to be impressed by the quality of applicants, many who come from rural communities across Canada.

The 2022 Bayer Crop Science Opportunity Scholarship was administered by Universities Canada’s Scholarship Partners Canada—the leading Canadian service provider in the field of scholarship management.

Thousands of deserving students have received over $2 million in scholarship funding since the Bayer Fund Opportunity Scholarship program was first introduced in Canada in 1991.
