Bayer awards scholarships to 12 emerging leaders in agriculture

Calgary, AB. – September 12, 2024 – Bayer Crop Science is thrilled to support future leaders in Canadian agriculture by awarding twelve (12) entrance scholarships, each valued at $5,000, to first-year students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture, food science, or culinary programs lasting at least two years.

The awarded students demonstrated a passion for Canadian agriculture with a clear vision to contribute to the industry, as well as showed an impressive record of academic achievement and community involvement. An independent panel reviewed essay submissions from each of these exemplary students who made this year’s selection, which focused on the topic of how Canadian farmers can contribute to feeding the world sustainably.

Scholarship winner, Zenith Vanstone, looks forward to using her education in Agricultural Management from Olds College to continue developing innovation within the industry and support her family farm.

“I am very excited to begin my post-secondary studies in agriculture and feel privileged to be a part of the future of this industry,” says Zenith. “With the support of this scholarship, I will be able to expand on my knowledge of agriculture practices, learn about new innovative technology, and develop a deeper understanding of sustainable farming. I am truly grateful for the investment into my studies, and the future of my family farm.”

Keegan Grills is excited to use the scholarship to pursue the Land and Water Resources Diploma Program at Olds College and has big plans for how his education will lead him to a career in agriculture.

“My plan is to complete the Land and Water Resources Diploma at Olds College before furthering my education at Lakeland College - after which I plan to work in the agriculture industry,” says Keegan. “The funding I’ve received from being awarded this scholarship will relieve some of the financial stress I’ll be faced with through my post-secondary years."

Bayer Crop Science is highly committed to attracting the next generation in Canadian agriculture. It is through initiatives, such as the Bayer Opportunity Scholarship, that we can support young agriculture enthusiasts in joining the industry.
