Bayer Hawaii offers relief during COVID-19

For more than 50 years, Bayer has remained committed to supporting numerous community organizations and initiatives that help to improve the lives of Hawaii’s families and farmers. And for the past month, these efforts have been amplified. From supporting food distribution services for those in need to 3D printing face shields for medical staff, Bayer Hawaii has been leveraging its talent and resources even further to help the local community and ensure that Hawaii’s farmers remain viable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now is the time to support our community with the services and skills that we are able to offer,” said Alan Takemoto, government affairs lead at Bayer Hawaii. “Bayer has been focusing on providing essentials for our most vulnerable populations, as well as doing our part to support the safety of first responders and healthcare providers.”

To date, Bayer has donated 5,000 medical grade facemasks across the state to address the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff and other essential workers. The donations have included 2,100 masks on Oahu, 1,900 on Maui and Molokai, 500 on the Island of Hawaii and 500 on Kauai. Beneficiaries have included Hawaii Pacific Health, The Queens Medical Center – West Oahu, Maui Memorial Hospital, Molokai General Hospital, Wahiawa General Hospital, and others.

Bayer Hawaii has gone a step further, manufacturing PPE through the 3D printing technology housed at its farm in Kihei, Maui and in Kunia on Oahu.  Approximately, 300 face shields were printed and donated to first responders, frontline healthcare workers and other health care agencies statewide.

In line with Bayer’s five-decade history in Hawaii’s agricultural community, the company is also supporting relief efforts that provide food necessities to those who need it most. To date, Bayer has donated a total of $12,500 to support efforts by the Hawaii Farm Bureau, Hawaii Food Bank, Maui Food Bank, and the Molokai Chamber of Commerce’s Support Molokai Initiative.

Through the Support Molokai initiative, more than 900 bags of fresh produce were delivered to kupuna, families in need, and essential workers. With business sanitation efforts more important than ever, Bayer Hawaii’s sponsorship of the Support Molokai Initiative also helped fund the sanitation of more than 50 businesses, including those on Kaunakakai town’s main street.
