Bayer Hawaii: Summer of Community Engagement

Maui Ag Fest 2024

Bayer Hawaii has been deeply involved in the community this summer, demonstrating its commitment to both environmental sustainability and human health.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards

The summer kicked off with Bayer's seventh annual "Monarch Butterfly Kit Giveaway," held in partnership with Sharing the Butterfly Experience. These events, which took place at the Maui Ag Fest and Pearlridge Center on Oahu, allowed hundreds of attendees to learn about the vital role monarch butterflies play in agriculture and Bayer's initiatives to support their population.

"We were thrilled to see such a positive response at both events," said Monica Ivey, Corporate Relations Lead for Bayer Hawaii,  "It's inspiring to see so many people interested in learning about sustainable agriculture and how they can contribute to a healthier environment."

Attendees received "Hawaii's Farm to Table" activity books, and 50 lucky participants won mini butterfly habitat kits, which allowed them to raise their own monarch butterflies. These hands-on experiences aimed to cultivate a deeper appreciation for pollinators and their critical role in our ecosystem.

Promoting Heart Health

Bayer demonstrated its commitment to community health and wellness by proudly sponsoring the Hydration Station at the American Heart Association of Hawaii Heart Walk, which took place on August 3.

"It was amazing to see hundreds of people coming out to walk four miles around Diamond Head on a very warm morning to support the Heart Association," said Serina Kista, the Oahu, Kunia site lead for Bayer. "We are proud to support initiatives that promote heart health and encourage active lifestyles.”

Supporting Kidney Health Awareness

Continuing its focus on health, Bayer was the presenting sponsor of "Hawaii Kidney Conversations" on August 10, a community education event organized by the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii.

"We are immensely grateful for Bayer's support in making this event possible," said Jenna Copley, Lean Dietician at the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii. "Their partnership allows us to reach a broader audience and empower individuals with knowledge about kidney health."

The event featured presentations from medical professionals and patient advocates, interactive discussions, and a panel discussion on the heart-kidney connection moderated by "Sustaining Hawaii" host Rick Hamada.
