Bayer Hawaii Races Toward an End to Homelessness

Thanksgiving Day saw hundreds of runners hit the pavement for the annual Homeward Bound 5K, a fun run dedicated to supporting Hawaii's most vulnerable citizens.

This year, Bayer Hawaii stepped up as the presenting sponsor, demonstrating its commitment to the community and the fight against homelessness.

"We are incredibly proud to partner with IHS and contribute to such a worthy cause," said Bronson Kahue-burrows, Seed Operations Lead at Bayer in Kunia. "At Bayer, we believe in the power of community and are committed to supporting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of those around us."

The Homeward Bound 5K, organized in partnership with the Punahou Girls' Cross Country Team, raises crucial funds for programs addressing homelessness across the islands. Bayer Hawaii's generous "Ho'ohanohano Level" sponsorship will provide a significant impact, ensuring medication management for guests at the Sumner Men's Shelter battling chronic health conditions for an entire month.

"We are incredibly grateful for Bayer Hawaii''s generous support of the Homeward Bound 5K. Their commitment to ending homelessness in Hawaii truly embodies their mission of 'health for all, hunger for none,' said Angie Knight, IHS Community Relations Manager. "By investing in this event, they directly contribute to vital programs that provide shelter, healthcare, and hope to those in need."

But Bayer's support didn't stop at sponsorship. A team of ten enthusiastic employees joined the race, embodying the company's dedication to making a difference both on and off the course.

"What better way to start Thanksgiving than by giving back to our community," said Melveen Camba, a nurse at Bayer's Kunia site. "I'm proud to be running with my Bayer colleagues to support those experiencing homelessness in Hawaii. "

The Homeward Bound 5K serves as a powerful reminder that everyone deserves a safe and stable home. Through the combined efforts of organizations like Bayer Hawaii, the Punahou Girls' Cross Country Team, and compassionate individuals across the islands, there is hope for a future where homelessness is a distant memory.

In the past, Bayer Hawaii has volunteered at IHS' LeaderServe Friday, where #TeamBayer prepared and served meals to guests at the Men's Sumner shelter. Plus, Bayer Hawaii donated more than 300 packs of seeds to IHS to use in its gardens
