Bayer Thai taps solar energy for its row crops seed production site in Phitsanulok

Bayer Thai Co., Ltd. formally switched on its solar panel installation to power its corn seed production site in Phitsanulok using renewable energy. Leading the inauguration on August 8, 2023, were Mr. Manas Seangkong, Director of Phitsanulok Provincial Agricultural Extension Office, with the Director of Regional Investment and Economic Center 7 (Phitsanulok) Board of Investment of Thailand, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Naresuan University and local government officers. Representing Bayer Thai Co., Ltd was Mr. Weraphon Charoenpanit, Crop Science Country Commercial Lead for Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

 

The rooftop-based solar panel installation covers 50% of the site’s total available space can generate 600KW. It will contribute to a 20% reduction in CO2 emission which is equivalent to 371 tons per annum or comparable to the carbon absorption capacity of 190,000 mangrove trees plantation.

 

Mr.Weraphon said: “As part of Bayer's sustainability commitments in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we aim to reduce greenhouse gases by 30% by 2030 through our environmental-friendly operations. In collaboration with our suppliers and partners in the production chain, this project is an important contribution to achieving our sustainability targets.”

 

The export-oriented seed production site in Phitsanulok also houses the Seeds Test Laboratory. This is the first laboratory in the country to receive the Department of Agriculture accreditation. The test lab helps raise confidence in Thailand’s seed testing and exports as the country aims to be a global leader in seed production.
