In line with our vision "Health for all, hunger for none", we regularly support various organizations with donations. At this point, we would like to highlight some of these commitments.
Support for Ukraine
In March 2022, we joined forces with Glückskette Schweiz to launch an internal fundraising campaign and asked employees to donate to refugees and those affected by the war in Ukraine. Bayer Switzerland doubled the amount donated by employees. This raised around CHF 126'048.
Childhood Cancer Switzerland
We also donated CHF 18'000 to Childhood Cancer Switzerland. Thanks to early diagnosis and successful therapy, four out of five children and adolescents survive their cancer today. Through intensive research, optimal therapy and aftercare, five out of five children and adolescents should survive their cancer in the future, with as few late effects as possible.
With the information platform Childhood Cancer Switzerland, the relevant information for the stressful time after diagnosis and during treatment can be quickly accessed by the affected families and other interested parties. Especially in the acute period of diagnosis and initial treatment, efficient support for those affected is very important.
Help for butterfly children
Bayer donated a further CHF 15'000 to DEBRA Switzerland. Our Consumer Health Division has been supporting DEBRA Switzerland since 2021 as part of a partner program. The patient organization has been supporting children suffering from the congenital, currently incurable skin disease epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and their families since 1998. EB is a congenital, serious and currently incurable skin disease. Those affected are colloquially known as "butterfly children" because their skin is symbolically as vulnerable as the wings of a butterfly. The check was presented to Tatjana Jurkic, President of DEBRA Switzerland and herself the mother of a boy with EB, at a ceremonial townhall in Basel on December 6.
Schweizer Tafel
Our Consumer Health Division also donated a large quantity of Bepanthen DERMA products to the Schweizer Tafel as part of a product donation. Around 4,200 Bepanthol body lotions, around 5,500 Bepanthol hand creams and 2,000 Bepanthen DERMA shower gels will benefit socially disadvantaged people. The Schweizer Tafel collects surplus, perfectly good food from wholesalers, producers and retailers and distributes it free of charge to social institutions that look after poor people. The food, which has passed its sell-by date but not its use-by date, is in perfect condition and can thus be put to good use instead of being thrown away.
All donations from the past year can be found here.
