Bayer and WOCA join hands to support disadvantaged communities affected by COVID-19

  • Bayer Vietnam and the Women’s Charity Association of Ho Chi Minh City (WOCA) have launched the Strengthen Resilience of Vulnerable People in Vietnam during COVID-19 program to help disadvantaged communities affected by COVID-19.
  • The program provides nutritional and educational support, along with useful information on COVID-19 prevention, and assistance to maintain their livelihoods in the new normal

Ho Chi Minh City, 7 January 2022 – In collaboration with WOCA, Bayer has provided relief packages in the form of nutritional, educational and livelihood support to selected communities that have been severely affected by COVID-19, including seniors without family, disadvantaged women and children. This effort is part of the Strengthen Resilience of Vulnerable People in Vietnam during COVID-19 program implemented by WOCA, and Bayer has donated 896,000,000 VND to this program.

 

The program will be rolled out across Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, and Hau Giang provinces from now until July 2022 to support disadvantaged families that are badly affected by COVID-19.

To start the year on a bright note, Bayer and WOCA has organized the program’s first event on 7th January 2022 to distribute relief packages at Nha Be and Can Gio districts. More distribution events will take place at Hoc Mon District, District 8, and District 12 within the month. The program will continue to provide relief packages for the needy and vulnerable at multiple locations until mid-2022. 

 

In the first phase of this program, Bayer and WOCA will distribute some 700 relief packages, including necessities, essential medical devices and medicines, and monetary assistance to support disadvantaged families regain their livelihoods. 

 

Ms Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Head of Human Resources, Bayer Vietnam, shared: “Over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of painful losses around the world and Vietnam is not an exception. Due to the pandemic, many people are unable to work while children are struggling to have access to education. Understanding the difficulties that the disadvantaged communities are facing, with the help of WOCA, the program Strengthen Resilience of Vulnerable People in Vietnam during COVID-19 was implemented. The program aims to help people overcome and cope with the pandemic.”

Bayer will also support children’s education with online learning tools such as tablets and virtual educational programs. One such program is the Science Switch, a virtual education platform where children can learn about science in a fun and engaging way from the safety of their homes. The tablets will be presented to children in July 2022 for the new school year.

 

Speaking about the program, Ms Nguyen Thi Hue, WOCA’s president, shared: “COVID-19 has been a source of great hardships for us all, with disproportionate effects on the more vulnerable. WOCA is grateful for the valuable donations from Bayer Vietnam to extend support to communities that are most affected by the pandemic. Through this joint program, aside from providing relief packages, we also want to send a message of hope, sincerity and optimism to our communities.”

The Strengthen Resilence of Vulnerable People in Vietnam during COVID-19 program has also attracted the voluntary participation of many Bayer Vietnam employees. Braving the threat of COVID-19, Bayer Vietnam volunteers participated in distributing relief packages as well as sending love and care for disadvantaged families, seniors and children.
