Speaking at the event were Dr. Sanchawan Wittayakornrerk, an expert on eczema and a lecturer at Ramathibodi Hospital’s Faculty of Medicine; and Ms. Kanuengnit (Rodmay) Juksmitranont, an actress-cum-mother. They shared experiences on eczema treatments at the event moderated Mr. Pitipat (Bam) Kootrakul. The launch event held at the Glass House, Nai Lert Park Heritage Home.
Dr. Sanchawan said that currently, there are more than 230 million people with eczema worldwide, including Thailand. The incidence of eczema has increased by 2-3 times in recent decades. The cause of eczema is related to skin irritation from the skin barrier being damaged, and the presence of foreign substances or allergens entering the skin. There are also other triggering factors, such as genetics and a malfunctioning immune system. The severity of symptoms varies from person to person. Some people may have blisters, with serum leakage, scales, scabs, abrasions, scratches, redness, up to severe levels in some people with thick plaques and cracks.
"Eczema is commonly found in children, often appearing as red rashes, itching, primarily on the face, elbows, and knees. These symptoms can be distressing for children, leading to frequent scratching, impacting their confidence, and potentially affecting their emotional and learning development. Therefore, parents should prioritize caring for children with sensitive skin, ensuring their skin is consistently healthy," Dr. Sanchawan added.
